No matter where it comes from, fear of the dentist can make it difficult to attend routine dental appointments. There are many obvious downsides to avoiding necessary treatments, from struggling to eat comfortably to living every day in pain. With dental sedation, we can make your time in the dentists’ chair relaxed, comfortable and pain-free.

Sedation refers to the use of medication to help patients relax during treatment. It can be used to make any procedure much more tolerable and comes in various strengths.
At Aurora, we use IV sedation, which means that sedatives will be administered intravenously. Unlike deeper forms of sedation, IV sedation will not put you into an unconscious state. You will still be able to respond to certain commands or instructions, without being completely aware of what is happening. You may not remember much of your treatment, but your anxiety levels will be significantly reduced.
During your initial consultation with our treatment coordinator, you will be asked a series of questions about your medical history and your dental preferences. If you are nervous about undergoing treatment, you may be eligible for dental sedation. Although we often see this as a last resort and may suggest alternatives such as self-hypnosis or the use of positive affirmations, sedation will be offered if we believe it will be beneficial to you.
Our Sedationist, Dr Carl Lazzari, is also the co-founder of Aurora Dental and has many years of experience in the practice of IV sedation. He is well-known for his friendly, professional and relaxed approach to treatment, with patients coming from far and wide to enjoy treatment at our award-winning Wiltshire-based clinics.
