You may have heard several things about Invisalign® treatment and not all of them will necessarily be correct. If you haven’t received Invisalign® treatment before, it can be easy to make assumptions about it. Not that that’ll do you any favours in the long run.

Take it from us at Aurora Dental & Implant Clinics, Invisalign® is an easy and effective way to straighten your teeth without dealing with all of the problems associated with traditional, fixed braces. Still need some convincing? We’re going to run you through a few common concerns and quash them in the process!

Invisalign® Aligners Can’t Actually Move Your Teeth

We’re not sure who started sharing this myth but it couldn’t be less true! If that were the case, surely Invisalign® wouldn’t have been around for over twenty years? In reality, Invisalign® aligners are famed for their incredible ability to move teeth whilst drawing as little attention to them as possible. These aligners gradually shift the teeth into place over time. Instead of fixed braces, Invisalign® aligners are retainer-like moulds made of smooth, medical-grade thermoplastic. This material is called SmartTrack® and has been specifically designed for Invisalign® treatment.

SmartTrack® moves the teeth by applying gentle but consistent force to them, allowing them to shift right under your nose! Thanks to years of research and development, the aligners fit close to the teeth, minimising any disruption to your speech whilst still being able to control the movement of your teeth. You really couldn’t ask for much more when it comes to improving your smile.

You Can Only Fix Minor Issues With Invisalign®

The most common reason people opt for Invisalign® is to straighten their teeth and improve the general appearance of their smile. Yet that doesn’t mean that’s all you can do! Invisalign® can also be used to treat a number of concerns, including gap teeth, an open bite, some types of overbite and underbite and crossbite issues. Invisalign® most definitely isn’t a one-trick pony, so if you’re concerned about being able to correct your teeth with aligners as opposed to fixed braces, you shouldn’t rule them out as an option.

Your Invisalign® practitioner won’t be able to let you know if you’ll be suitable for treatment until you have an initial consultation. Following a consultation with a member of our wonderful team, you’ll know whether or not you can go ahead with treatment. A consultation will give you the chance to ask any questions you may have and you’ll be able to see exactly how Invisalign® will be able to help you.

Invisalign® Is Painful

This is yet another myth that we want to put to rest and it’s probably the most common one around. Compared to fixed braces, Invisalign® is a much more comfortable treatment option. Without wires digging into your cheeks and brackets falling off, straightening your teeth becomes a much more enticing prospect. When you opt for Invisalign®, you’ll get a new set of aligners every few weeks. You might feel a little bit uncomfortable when you first use them but this will soon pass. As with any treatment aimed at straightening your teeth, it’s impossible to avoid some degree of discomfort. After all, your teeth are moving and it’s an enormous undertaking for them.

At the end of your Invisalign® journey, it’ll all be worth it and you’ll have the smile of your dreams! What could be better? If you want that to be your reality sooner rather than later, Aurora Dental is here to help. Our staff are well-versed in all aspects of Invisalign® treatment and they would be more than happy to help you, all you need to do is get in touch with us.
