Are you looking for an effective way to strengthen your teeth and improve the appearance of your smile?
If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, veneers could be just what you’re looking for. By capping the teeth with an incredibly fine layer of porcelain, veneers are a quick and easy solution for adding an unmistakable sparkle to your smile.
What are veneers made from?
Veneers are typically made from porcelain or a robust resin – this is often the case for composite veneers. They are bonded to the front of the teeth to improve both strength and appearance. They also quickly and effectively brighten your smile and cover any imperfections in the process.
Porcelain veneers do tend to be pricier, but when you choose this option, you’re opting for higher quality veneers which are much more likely to stand the test of time. They’re also the most natural-looking option and they will last for up to 10-15 years with proper care.
Composite veneers typically have a shorter lifespan and might wear down quicker than their porcelain counterparts. On the plus side, they require less or no enamel removal – a process that often takes place during the application of veneers. This is done in order to create a better surface for the veneers to adhere to.
Why should I opt for veneers?
If you feel self-conscious about your smile and often avoid grinning when you have your picture taken, then veneers could be the perfect solution for you. A set of veneers can cover a number of embarrassing imperfections such as stains, discolouration, chips or gaps. In addition to creating a brighter and more even smile, veneers also provide reinforcement for teeth, improving their strength in the long run.
What is the process for getting veneers?
As with any dental procedure, you will need to attend an initial consultation with a dentist so they can assess your suitability for further treatment. If you show any signs of tooth decay or gingivitis, these issues will need to be treated before you can get any veneers fitted. Teeth grinders should also beware. Veneers are designed to withstand a certain degree of strain, but grinding your teeth on a regular basis might mean that veneers are best avoided. If this is the case, your dentist will be able to recommend an alternative solution for you.
If you’re suitable for treatment, your dentist will then advise on the type of veneer that is best for your teeth – either porcelain or composite. Porcelain veneers will require two sessions. In the first session, your teeth will be prepared. In the second, your veneers will be fitted. Composite veneers, on the other hand, can be fitted in a single session.
